What type of stone is Rustic and where does it come from?
Rustic is a fine-grained sandstone with a greyish base and golden nuances. Its data sheet classifies it as a litharenite, also called lithic arenite: a sandstone with a high share of rock fragments among its grains. It is extracted at Rubio Natural Stone's own quarry in Solsona.
How much water does Rustic absorb and how does it behave in frost?
The Rustic data sheet gives an open porosity of 9.9%, that is, the volume of voids that water can reach, with no water absorption figure. After 56 freeze-thaw cycles, flexural strength stands at 10.1 MPa, against a starting 10.5 MPa. Megapascals (MPa) measure strength: the higher the figure, the more load the stone takes.
Is Rustic suitable for exteriors, paving, facades or pools?
We recommend Rustic for pedestrian external paving, terraces, gardens, decorative setts and masonry cladding, including restoration work. In the abrasion test it leaves a 25.5 mm groove (the smaller, the more wear-resistant), a value for pedestrian use; for vehicle traffic we propose Northcliff Blue. Around pools it is an option for cold climates or heavy use. For slip resistance, the pendulum test gives 85 wet; in this test, the higher the value, the more grip the surface has.
Which finishes does Rustic take?
The 2026 catalogue lists ten finishes for Rustic: sawn, honed, sandblasted, bush-hammered (also fine and coarse), brushed, chiselled, split and the Rubio's Special family. The catalogue itself shows it brushed, sandblasted and split. Rustic is not flamed: that finish is listed only for Violet and Northcliff Blue.
