Brisa

Brisa is a fine-grained calcareous sandstone, dark beige with soft cream veining. Its petrographic study classifies it as a calcarenite, a rock made of sand-sized calcareous grains. It comes in large blocks from one of Rubio Natural Stone's own quarries.

The Brisa data sheet states an open porosity of 12.4%, which is the volume of voids that water can reach, and gives no water absorption figure. In the frost test, after 56 freeze-thaw cycles, flexural strength stands at 9.0 MPa, against 9.7 MPa before the test; the megapascal (MPa) is the unit of strength, and the higher the figure, the more load the stone takes.

We recommend Brisa for large-format paving, ventilated facades, cladding in restoration work and ashlar elements. It is installed, honed, in the Waldorf Astoria hotel and in a private residence in Halifax (UK, 2022). Around pools it is an option for residential use in a Mediterranean climate. Its slip resistance, measured with the pendulum, is 97 dry and 83 wet; the higher the value, the more grip the surface gives.

The 2026 catalogue lists ten finishes for Brisa: sawn, honed, sandblasted, bush-hammered (also fine and coarse), brushed, chiselled, split and the Rubio's Special family. Honed is the finish documented on site, in the Waldorf Astoria hotel and the Halifax residence, and the catalogue shows Brisa in Stripped, from the Rubio's Special family. Brisa is not flamed: that finish is listed only for Violet and Northcliff Blue.
