The Project
Hotel ME Barcelona, inaugurated in November 2021, stands in the very heart of the city, at the junction of Casp street and Passeig de Gràcia. Conceived as a social and cultural epicentre, this 5-star grand luxury hotel blends contemporary design, innovation, art, music and gastronomy with over 2,500 m² of Mediterranean gardens.
With 14 floors, 164 rooms and 25 exclusive suites, the hotel is today a benchmark of modernity and luxury in the city centre.
Architecture and interior design
The architectural project was developed by FITARQ & OUA Group, while the interior design was signed by MUR Arquitectura. The developer CASPE 1-13 drove the definitive realisation of the hotel, entrusting the construction to JSS Efficient Engineering and adding the distinctive hallmark of the Meliá chain.
The facade: PERLA natural stone
One of the most distinctive aspects of the project is the natural stone facade. PERLA sandstone from Rubio Stone's quarries was used, in a bush-hammered finish across its entire surface, lending character and sophistication, with bevelled perimeter edges to achieve a perfect joint between all the pieces that form the ensemble.
Large-format pieces were used, up to 2.40 m long × 1 m wide in thicknesses of 3 and 4 cm. The stone was pre-mounted onto cement structures at Escofet's facilities, the company responsible for manufacturing these structural elements. This industrialised solution enabled a more efficient, agile and precise on-site installation process, optimising both time and resources.
PERLA natural stone gives the building a timeless aesthetic, with soft and luminous tones that convey serenity and sophistication. Its use on the envelope endows the hotel with an elegant and contemporary image, in perfect harmony with the values of innovation and excellence of the ME by Meliá brand.
A cutting-edge project
Hotel ME Barcelona has become an icon of the city. A project that combines avant-garde, functionality and design, with a clear commitment to art and sustainability. The PERLA natural stone by Rubio Stone on its facade represents the perfect balance between tradition and modernity, helping this building blend into the urban fabric with a refined and contemporary presence.
